Eight Is Enough

You have to hand it to the Cubs. On Monday night, they made everyone forget about their offensive woes by reminding everyone that their pitching still sucks. Pittsburgh pummeled them for 10 runs on 18 hits en route to the Cubs' 8th straight loss.

Dempster never had it and spent a lot of time arguing with home plate umpire Bob Davidson about the strike zone. I'd like to see Bradley and Dempster get together so I can find out once and for all who knows the strike zone the best. He threw 94 pitches through 4 innings, yet he still left with a 7-6 lead. By now, we're all aware that the Cubs bullpen is filled with crap. It's especially so on a night when Carlos Marmol was in New York to be with his wife for the birth of their child. Lou must have thrown up in his mouth when he realized he was only getting 4 innings out of his starter.

Ascaino pitched the 5th and although he gave up 3 hits, he did not yield a run and was eligible for the win.

Enter Neal Cotts.

Cotts, in one of his better outings this season, held the Pirates to only 3 runs on 4 hits in one inning of suck and took the loss. Hopefully this will be his last game in a Cubs uniform. I don't think you can be a left-handed specialist when your "specialty" is coming into a close game and taking a giant shit in your pants while standing on the mound.

"We've given Neal all the opportunities in the world," Piniella said of the lefty, who has a 7.36 ERA. "It's time, isn't it?"Yes, it is time to cut him Lou. Make it happen.

This is something I never thought I'd say but I wish Lou would handle this like Tony LaRussa would. You know, buy Cotts a 12-pack and flip him the car keys...
