Mad Cub Disease

There must be something in the water, possibly the Gatorade machine. How else can you explain the bizarre behavior lately in the Friendly Confines?

On Wednesday, it was Carlos Zambrano's turn to lose his cool. With Rich Harden already on the disabled list and Ted Lilly facing a possible suspension for his antics on Monday night, Zambrano couldn't control his temper and will now most likely miss some time of his own. While it's never a good time to be without your ace of the staff, Zambrano couldn't have picked a worse time to explode. It's doubtful it ever entered his head.

What Zambrano did was simply selfish. In what's become a disturbing pattern with him, he lost his composure and let down his team and his fans. If the Cubs are going to succeed this season, they are going to have to keep their emotions in check and their best players on the field.

The fact that they are showing this kind of emotion in late May shows they are aware that they can't just waltz their way to a third straight playoff appearance. The problem is, championship teams seem to always maintain their composure, something this team is sorely struggling with lately.
